A disk array is a system which contains multiple disk drives. It is differentiated from a disk enclosure, in that an array has memory and advanced functionality, like RAID and virtualization. Sun disk arrays are well suited to use when a large amount of data must be accessible, but not with the frequency of access necessary from a Fiber Channel Array.
